Subject: [sensehelpsite] Safety Liner in our Sensé Tubes
Hello Group
For many of you that have been in on one of my Sensé training events you already know I cover the extra safety step USANA takes to add a liner to all our tubes. This assures us that the product cannot get contaminated by the tube, or product leaching back into the tube itself. This is always a concern when we see products in plastic tubes. As the saying goes; if you can smell the product before you even open the lid you know that product is contaminated by the plastic container. To assure this would not happen even with the highest quality plastic USANA chose to use, they took the next step to further protect our products and our health by lining every tube. Since some members in the past asked me exactly what the liner is, I expect the actual formula is a proprietary blend. What I am enclosing below though, is all the information you would ever need that also covers not just our tube liner but information of caps, bottles and tubes of all our Sensé/Splash containers. I hope you will be as excited and proud once again of the complete care USANA takes regarding our products right to the containers they are packaged in. The following were questions I sent to our ever amazing Russ Barton (Russ Barton MS, CNS, CISSN Senior Nutrition Scientist,USANA Science Information - R&D) asking if he would fill in my questions with answers I can provide to members without breaking any confidential rules. Below are the answers!
Lining information of our Sensé products
1) The liner would be considered EVOH (keeps oxygen from penetrating through the tube) with long- lasting effect for several years. All of the plastic tubes have an EVOH barrier layer in them. This does not contact the product. The outer and innermost layers are LDPE. The Toothpaste has a foil barrier layer instead to aide in evacuation of the product.
2) Has good chemical resistance- Yes. All Sense products have been tested for packaging stability for at least the 2 year shelf claim of the products.
3) Heat-sealed The tubes are all heat sealed. The Shower Gel has in foil induction seal liner. The other products in bottles are not sealed using heat as they have tamper evidence provided by other means (Shrink bands or unit cartons with top and bottom labels).
4) Environmentally friendly- Most of the packaging is recyclable. The caps and the pump typically must be discarded because they are made of mixed materials. Recyclable components are all marked with the recycling symbol.
5) Tubes aluminum-free- The caps on the Toner, DPE, Night Renewal, Serum, PE and Eye Nourisher are all made of Polypropylene with an aluminum overshell. The GDC pump has decorative aluminum collar over the Polypropylene body and the Toothpaste tube is a laminate that includes Aluminum as the base layer but none of the aluminum is in contact with the product. In all products except the toothpaste, it is a decorative accent only. The toothpaste is laminate to aide in evacuation of the product. The inner layers that contact the product are LDPE.
6) Keeps formula ingredients more stable for shelf life- See#2.
Have a Sensé-tional Day!
