7 Reasons You May Not Ever Be Successful - Sorry ... Someone Has to Say This!

7 Reasons You May Not Ever Be Successful

I'm sorry to be the one to bring this up.

There's an elephant in the room that keeps nudging me to speak up. So I'm going out on a limb and hoping you will appreciate a heart to heart unpealing of the proverbial layers of what stops most people from achieving the success they dream of.

Whether it's a serious habit that you haven't quite kicked – or a simple reminder we all fall into ruts, and can use a nurturing nudge from time to time.

Consider this to be my nurturing nudge!

Here the 7 reasons you may not ever be successful - and feel free to call me on any of them!

  1. You're focused too much on achieving goals

Arguably, goals are helpful tools to help you get motivated.

However, most people don't use them for this reason. And instead live their lives according to writing, working on and achieving goal after goal after goal. Goals for health, for family time, for home repairs, for sales targets in their businesses. Heck some people even have goals for intimate time with their partner.

What happens is they get so set in achieving goals they begin to feel overwhelmed, anxious, nervous and burdened. Over time the weight of achieving the next goal robs them of their creativity, sense of flow and fun in life!

2.    You pretend to be a leader ALL the time

What stops many leaders from being successful is they don't know when to lead and when to pass the baton.

A quality of a true leader is being authentic. When you can confidently 'walk the talk' people see you as a leader. And when you're not, unconsciously people will pick up your incongruency.

If you are a model of excellence in your field of study, then lead!  And if you're not, pass the baton to a fellow leader or someone on your team.

You can't fake it 'til you make it on everything…! Please stop trying to be someone you aren't – be yourself!

3.    You waste time thinking there's something not quite right

Okay, so you say you're a 'cup half full' kind of person. At the end of the day, when you put your head on the pillow what comes up for you? Does your mind go on instant replay, celebrating the day or are you ruminating on the things that didn't go exactly as planned?

How much time do you spend thinking of today and the past, versus the future?

If you're either too much in the now or the past you're setting yourself up to not be successful. Thinking in this way makes it difficult to focus on what you want. And it could be keeping you in a painful state of wanting to fix what's not quite right so you can do it 'better' next time.

4.    You aren't good at decision making

We are so lucky to be living a life of so many choices. Not!

There's so many choices for everyday products on the marketplace these days. From toothpaste to laundry detergent. Which channel to watch or book to read. It's mind blowing! Literally, it's possibly high-jacking your ability to make a decision.

Some people find making decisions easier than others. If you like things to be the same there's a good chance you make decisions easily. As all you need to do is select whatever looks, sounds or feels the same.

If however, you like variety or different things in your life – you can be overwhelmed by all the choices.

Being overwhelmed can lead to confused and frustrated. All painful states to be in which when they peak – is highly unresourceful. You can find yourself jumping on the next thing that is presented in front of you. Which if it's not a good choice can set off a domino effect that can have massive consequences on the trajectory of your future and living your dream life!

5.    You don't know what you want – or you know what you want and you want it now!

As mentioned in #3 time spent thinking in the now or in the past too much can rob you of discovering what you truly want.

Being too busy, filling your calendar with too many 'make work projects' and working to accomplish low level goals can be exhausting and leave you too tired at the end of the week to explore new choices.
Conversely, knowing what you want and running toward making it happen NOW, like it's a race will blind you to the obstacles that can trip you up and to opportunities along the way that can help you get to the end even quicker.

I remember my mom always saying, "Jacquie, you need to slow down to speed up!" She was right… but not too slow mom!

6.    You give up too quickly

Winners are not only resilient – they are also persistent and when up against the wall can be downright tenacious.

"…the 10,000hr rule is a definite key in success" Malcolm Gladwell

If you aren't successful take time to exploring and developing these qualities as you're going to need them to sustain yourself over the long run.

7.    You don't consider consequences

This is something that I've discovered in my coaching practice is often misunderstood and underrated.
If you don't have a method to future pace your life how do you know what path to take?

I hope this has been helpful in uncovering some areas in your life and business that might be sabotaging your success.
